Tips & Tricks: Three Steps to Success with Violin Lessons

May 13th, 2014 by Katherine Moller

small__1160995725I recently had a pep talk with one of my students from Park St. Elementary School.  She was struggling with playing some of the music that we had been working on for while and was just about ready to quit.  As I was talking to her, I realized that there were three keys to her success, and here they are:

  1. Show up at your lessons:  This seems obvious, but I do have students who either don’t come to their classes at school, or call to cancel lessons because they feel they are not ready.
  2. Practice at home in between lessons:  It is possible to improve by only playing your instrument when you are at your lessons, but your rate of improvement will greatly increase the more you practice at home.
  3. Keep trying:  I sometimes find that students want to give up as soon as they hit a difficult patch.  You have to keep trying.  Without trying, success will never happen!

Keep working away!
