small__1698086365If you are like many of my students, you have probably taken a break from playing the fiddle through the summer.  Now that we are headed back into the school year, it is time to get back into the swing of things!  Here are 5 tips to help you make the most of this coming year:

  1. Check over your instrument to make sure that it is in good repair.
  2. Set goals for what you want to accomplish this year.  If you are taking lessons, do this with your teacher.
  3. Set a regular time to practice every day.  Regularity is really important, so make sure that you make this a priority.
  4. Warm up before you go to lesson.  If your lesson is the first time you play your instrument that day, you spend the first few minutes essentially warming up.  By warming up beforehand, you can make every minute of your lesson count!
  5. Practice as soon after your lesson as you can.  If you wait a couple of days to practice, you may have forgotten what you discussed with your teacher.  By practicing as soon as you can, you will reinforce what it is that you learned in your lesson.

I hope these tips help you make the most of the next year!  Please leave a comment if you have any other suggestions!
