
The NB Fiddle Camp is designed to provide students 8 years of age or older a chance to study Cape Breton, Irish, Scottish, Old Tyme, and Acadian styles of fiddling. Instruction is available for beginning to advanced students. Instruction in piano accompaniment is offered during week 2.
The NB Fiddle Camp was established in 2004. Instructors have included Jacqueline Rowan, Jacques Mainville, Jocelyne Bourque, Krista Touesnard, Brad Trecartin, Darra Smith and Katherine Moller. Students enjoyed instruction not only in fiddle but also in penny whistle, step dance, technique, and spoons.

Week 1:
July 12-16, 2010
Ages 8-14
Instruction in fiddle with extra classes in penny whistle, step dance, Celtic song and bodhran
Week 2:
July 19-23, 2010
Ages 14 and up
Instruction in fiddle, piano accompaniment, and guitar
Entrance requirements:
- no prior experience is necessary
- students must provide their own instruments
Fiddle Classes:
Fiddle classes will be provided in a group setting. The students will be divided by level – beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, and advanced – and will have a chance to study with each instructor.
Electives:
The elective period is designed to allow students to try other instruments or activities. Electives may include topics such as step dance and penny whistle.
Special Topic:
Special topics will include such things as Gypsy fiddling, how to read music, composition, instrument maintenance, and many others.
Fiddle Orchestra:
The fiddle orchestra provides the players with a chance to play as a large group. All players are welcome and encouraged to participate. This is a unique experience as most fiddlers do not have the chance to play in an orchestral setting. Traditional music will be performed.
Concert:
A public concert will be held on Thursday evening and will feature the students and instructors. The concert will be free of charge.
